Melting Pole Ice threat to ports

In a story titled "Arctic sea ice predicted to disappear" ABC's World Today program reported on predictions by US Scientists that the Arctic will be ice free in summer in 20 to 30 years time. Of course it's not the first time such claims have been made, and we suspect it won't be the last. Here's a report from 1952 on the same theme, prior to the advent of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming.

  1. Hello.
First time I've seen your website - can I say that I think it is a great idea for people to keep watch on and review our national broadcaster.
However, what is the point in the above item? All the World Today is doing is reporting what some scientists are saying.
As for the first image in the item, how does that conflict with what the scientists were saying?

  2. Thanks for visiting.
The point is to highlight earlier instances of Arctic Ice melt reported on by the press. On the whole ABC promote the notion that these events are unprecedented in recent history, however close inspection of the above suggests these events are common. It is interesting to note the historical coverage above occurred at a time when the climate could not have been influenced by changes due to increased greenhouse gases.
