"Water woes in Land of the Long White Cloud" The World Today 22/3/2010, and
"NZ's north suffers worst drought in 60 years" ABC NEWS online posted 22/3/2010.
Significant attention was given to concerns about water shortages in the town of Kaitaia in the country's far north. The implication being the water shortages were due solely to the drought. The report failed to mention that:
"Critical water supply problems in Kaitaia are the result of the failure of the Far North District Council to invest in infrastructure, a local politician believes. And he's been backed by others who say the council was warned in December to plan for water shortages." This was reported by the New Zealand Herald in its story "Drought town blames council for problems", and also covered in the The Northern Advocate in its story "Mayor, councillor in public spat over water shortage".
Once again ABC only tells us half the story.
