Climate spin at The Con

ABC's academic arm The Con. have an article by Communications and Media Studies lecturer David Holmes titled: Climate change and the politics of consensus. The article is accompanied by a picture showing what appears to be a group scientists in white coats (see below). Now who could argue with that authority?

A close look at the photo shows the banner was provided by AVAAZ an online activist group. A quick web search reveals a Yahoo news story where we find the "scientists" are actually AVAAZ protesters!
The caption reads: Members of the non-governmental organisation AVAAZ take part in a protest on the side of a giant 12m seesaw, outside the conference centre Munchen brewhouse where the U.N. IPCC climate report was presented.
Use of activist propaganda imagery by a tax payer funded site does little for the credibility of The Con, or the author. We made a note and asked some difficult questions. The image preserved at Webcite.

ABC: infecting young minds.

Reported in Today's Australian:
Kid's play: ABC show to help sell climate goals
SHE grows awesome tomatoes and has an orange tractor. And now dirtgirl, the lead character in the popular children's television program dirtgirlworld, has been enlisted to the climate change fight by a Gillard government struggling to convince her viewers' parents of the merits of the carbon tax package.
Senate estimates was told yesterday the ABC show had been awarded a $150,000 grant "to reach currently disengaged families through childhood activities focused on reducing energy use".

ABC-Uranium mine in the snowy West Australian Alps!

Screen capture from ABC environment portal 14/2/2011

Based on the image (see screenshot above) ABC Environment use to accompany an ABC news story about Uranium exploration near Wiluna, in West Australia it appears the West Australian's have been hiding an alpine wonderland from the rest of Australia. Perhaps this is the way ABC environment staff view every potential mine site?
Here's a Google earth image of the Wiluna Region. Can anyone pin point those snowy mountains here? Anyone? There's a copy of the Prince of Precaution for the winning entry.
...and yes that is a meteorite crater in the upper central part of the image. It's Lake Nabberu, the site of the Shoemaker Meteorite impact crater.
UPDATE 15/2/2011: The image to accompany this news article on developing the Potosi Mine near Broken Hill suggest the effects of climate change already quite pronounced in outback NSW. Come to Broken Hill and see the coral wonderland.
Tourism opportunities in NSW's Hunter region now look much brighter with an Alpine wonderland at Sydney front door...
Barrier Reefs now found at Bathurst!

Best of ABC? Would you like some "climate propaganda" with your raw prawn?

COMMENT: So what's "Best of the ABC" this week? Perhaps an interview with Dr Roy Spencer about new developments in climate science that indicate climate sensitivity has been over estimated by the IPCC leaving their models and the "climate crisis" without a leg to stand on? Oh that's right ABC have thus far failed to report on it. Instead our national broadcaster uses tax payer funds to feed us some more "climate propaganda".
Best of ABC: In this case, sure to leave you feeling like you've eaten a raw prawn left baking out in the hot sun too long.
